Multiple Sclerosis and the OT

Join our presenters on June 21, 2017 as they engage participants in:

  • Learn about Multiple Sclerosis.
  • Discuss statistics on MS in Canada, specifically Ontario.
  • Describe how specific symptoms of MS impact how an OT may provide care and assessment of needs.
  • Determine psycho-social impacts of MS diagnoses.
  • Learn about current research, treatments and medical updates.
  • Review services and resources offered by the MS Society of Canada, specifically a funded program that requires an OT assessment.
  • Consider a client's perspective on MS and the role OT plays.
  • Discuss the 'OT perspective' - including resources, OT goals, barriers to achieving OT goals etc.
Target Audience:

Occupational therapists and Student Occupational Therapists who may work with clients with Multiple Sclerosis.

About our Presenters:

Carolyn Alma is an OT graduate from Queen's University. She has worked at Bridgepoint Active HealthCare since 2005 on the Neuromuscular Unit and has a keen interest in MS. 

Angela Covert is Manager of Education, Ontario and Nunavut Division MS Society of Canada, has been a full time staff person for 25 years. In her role as manager of education programs, she works with the local Ontario-wide chapters to ensure that education is meeting the needs of those affected by MS throughout the province. 

Janet MacNeil has worked closely with the MS Society for several years and was diagnosed with MS in 1997. A working mother of four, Janet struggled with mobility and isolation after her diagnoses until she joined an MS support group. Today she remains an active and dedicated volunteer at her local MS society.

Fees: (All fees are plus HST)

Members: $25

Student Members: $20

Non Member: $50

Refund Policy: Refunds will be given provided that a request is received by the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists no less than 10 business days prior to the event. Refunds will be given in full less a $10.00 administrative charge.
