Government releases 2017 Economic Outlook and Funding Priorities

Ontario’s Finance Minister, Charles Sousa, introduced the 2017 Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review, on November 14, 2017.  This report outlines new measures to grow the economy and help people thrive in an uncertain global environment. The review  is an update on Ontario's finances and key commitments since the 2017 Budget.

Much of the review highlights accomplishments and investments previously announced, however, together with new initiatives, the review provides a good overview of government priorities and planned initiatives.  Occupational therapists will find of particular interest the chapter on Building Fairness for Ontario Families. This chapter discusses initiatives relating to health care, social services, seniors.  We urge review of the sections on:

 Implications for Occupational Therapists

Commitments of the budget identify where priorities lie and where opportunities for innovative growth best exist.  OTs are best served by being aware of policy development and funding opportunities both at the provincial and local level. This gives focus for development work to position services to contribute to health system priorities and meet the needs of Ontarians.

OSOT is already engaged in advocacy and promotion of the profession in key areas where investment has been announced.  If you see an opportunity in your community, let us know at osot@osot.on.ca.
