Who Should Join?
If you practice occupational therapy in Ontario, are considering to re-enter the OT work force or are currently studying occupational therapy in Ontario, OSOT is an important professional resource for you. Keeping abreast of current issues, legislative developments and health care trends in the province enables you to position yourself and your services more effectively.
Classes of Membership
Active Membership
Occupational therapists living and/or working in Ontario and are voting members of the society. There are 4 categories of active membership;
- Full time practising
- Part time practising - Up to 800 hours annually
- Non practising - Unemployed but anticipating return to practice or retired but wishing to retain voting status
- New Graduate - Within one year of graduation from a WFOT approved school of occupational therapy
Student Membership
Students enrolled in a Canadian university program in occupational therapy are eligible for complimentary membership in OSOT. Student members have access to all membership benefits and services but do not carry a right to vote. Sign up now for your complimentary student membership.
Associate Membership
Occupational therapists living outside of Ontario or individuals who are not occupational therapists but who wish to link with the profession in Ontario and receive access to member benefits. Associate members have full access to all membership benefits and services relevant to their practice but do not carry a right to vote.
Honourary Life Member
An award conferred upon an occupational therapist who has been recognized by peers for long standing and distinguished service to the OSOT and/or the profession of occupational therapy.
Membership Requirements and Conditions
Active Members must meet the following requirement and conditions.
- The Member must live and/or work in the province of Ontario, and
- The Member must be eligible to practise occupational therapy in Ontario (or another province if applicable) to be eligible for practising status, or
- The Member must have graduated from an occupational therapy educational program in Canada accredited by the CAOT or from a non-Canadian occupational therapy educational program recognized by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists and have successfully completed 1000 hours of fieldwork or clinical practice or can provide evidence of full membership in the professional association in the country where occupational therapy education was received, to be eligible for non-practising status.
Student Members must be currently enrolled in a CAOT accredited educational program leading to a degree in occupational therapy.
Associate Members are not eligible for any other class of membership and may or may not be an occupational therapist.
Fee Structure
The OSOT membership year is from October 1 to September 30. It is a requirement that all members, except Honourary Life members, pay an annual fee in accordance with the fee schedule.

Regional Affiliation
OSOT membership is organized by geographic region. There are 6 OSOT Regions. Regional affiliation is determined by a postal code sort.

Payment Options
OSOT membership fees may be paid by;
- Cheque or money order made payable to OSOT. (if using online cheque option – print invoice and send it with your cheque (s)
- Visa or Mastercard
Application to the OSOT Professional Liability Insurance plan may be made at the time of membership application or separately. See Liability Insurance.
