Occupational Therapist

Mamaweswen, the North Shore Tribal Council is seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented Occupational Therapist to join our multi-disciplinary team of regulated health professionals; to provide outreach occupational therapy services to four member First Nation communities on the North Shore of Lake Huron, along the Highway 17 corridor from Sudbury to Sault Ste. Marie.

As the Occupational Therapist you will be required to collaborate with individuals, groups and the community-based Long Term Care teams to promote, maintain or restore health and well-being through “occupations” or activities; To provide education through various health promotion forums to staff and communities regarding the role of occupational therapy.

Travel to communities will be required, however a company vehicle is provided and all travel costs are covered.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized university.
  • Registration and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapy of Ontario.
  • ADP authorizer status (or willing and able to obtain).
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to students and rehabilitation assistants an asset.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge of the Aboriginal cultural values and traditions. Knowledge and ability to work with people with diverse practices, cultures and beliefs.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time-management, communication, decision-making and assessment skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • A clear criminal reference check is a condition of employment.
  • Must have access to a reliable personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license.

Given the traditional practices of Aboriginal people, from time to time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines; tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar, may occur.

Salary: $55,000 to $65,000
