OSOT Professional Liability Insurance Program
Subscribe to OSOT's comprehensive professional liability insurance program for just $81.95!
Occupational therapists working in Ontario must carry a professional liability (malpractice) insurance that provides coverage for a sexual abuse therapy and counseling fund. This is a
requirement of eligibility for registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario. OSOT urges members to additionally consider the need for liability insurance coverage for their own
protection. Few therapists are adequately protected for the costs of a legal suit by their employer's coverage.
Furthermore, therapists need to understand the importance of coverage for legal expenses that may be incurred related to the investigation of a complaint registered against
them to the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario. A comprehensive legal expenses reimbursement component assures the individual access to legal advice and representation throughout
the investigation process.
OSOT members have access to an excellent insurance program, administered by LMS PROLINK Ltd.
Coverage includes;
- Professional Liability Protection -
Provides $5,000,000 for each claim, no deductible, to $5,000,000 individual aggregate. A new coverage component is extension of coverage to include libel and slander.

Provides 100% reimbursement (no deductible) of legal expenses related to any hearing or investigation of the regulatory body up to a maximum of $200,000.

Five Good Reasons to Carry Liability Insurance
Amidst the flurry of paying professional fees to the regulatory body and professional
associations, the notion of yet another fee for insurance can seem burdensome. OTs must purchase professional liability insurance in Ontario as a requirement of their license with the College but beyond that, see why it is so important to protect yourself!
Retiring/Taking an extended Leave from Practice
Thinking about retirement or an extended parental, educational, travel leave in the future?
Ensure you have protection in the event of a complaint or legal suit. Don't leave yourself exposed to potential legal suit or complaint when you're not covered. OSOT makes it easy to obtain the "complimentary" policy extension. Read more.
