New RTW Practice Guide for Occupational Therapists in Work Practice!

The Institute for Work & Health (IWH), the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (OSOT) and the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) are pleased to introduce Working Together: Successful Strategies for Return to Work.

This evidence-based tool can be used by occupational therapists to share knowledge with employers. It contains information about workplace-based interventions to support employees returning to work after injury or illness and to prevent workplace injuries.

Working Together was created by the Occupational Therapists Educationally Influential (OT EI) Network. This network consists of occupational therapists in Ontario with work practice expertise. They have been identified by their peers as informal opinion leaders who are perceived as being up to date, easy to approach and who like to teach.

The tool is based on IWH’s Seven ‘Principles’ for Successful Return to Work. It was created by a tool development working group of the network comprised of Susan Domanski, Carolyn Hay, Mary Kita, Kathy MacDonald, Rhoda Reardon, Lynn Shaw, David Ure and Gabrielle Wright. This group consolidated and merged the Seven Principles into four stages reflecting occupational therapy practice processes.

The OT EI Network, IWH, OSOT and COTO invite you to use this tool to implement evidence-informed, successful strategies to help workplaces, employers and, most importantly, workers in achieving safe and productive work participation as well as timely return to functioning and work.
