OSOT Positions OT and Responds to Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care consultation on draft Regulations under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007
The Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 (LTCHA)received Royal Assent on June 4, 2007 and is the cornerstone of the government's strategy to improve and strengthen care for residents in Ontario's long-term care homes. Once proclaimed this act will direct rights of residents and services and obligations of LTC homes for the care, treatment and well-being of residents.
On September 15, 2009, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care released a set of proposed initial draft regulations under the LTCHA. This was the second set of regulations issued (see below for details of the first set) and dealt with residents' rights, care and services, admission of residents, councils, operation of homes, funding, licensing, municipal homes and first nations homes, compliance and enforcement and administration, miscellaneous and transition. Specifically, these regulations spoke to the provisions for Restorative Care under which access to OT services was addressed.
