OSOT MEMBERS’ LEGAL PLAN

 

LEGAL ADVICE WITHOUT CHARGE?

YES, IT’S A BENEFIT OF OSOT MEMBERSHIP!

 

We all encounter difficult legal questions at some point in our lives ………

 

·         You’ve been offered a great new job but you’re worried about one of the clauses in the contract.

·         You’re a student renting your first apartment but have an issue with your landlord or your room mate.

·         Your invoices to a client/payor have not been paid and you’re not sure how to proceed.

·         You’ve been let go and offered an exit package and want advice to consider your options.

·         You are wanting to setup your own private practice and want to ensure you know all the legal issues you need to consider.

·         You don’t have a will but think you should and need to know where to start, what to consider, etc.

·         You’re having a minor disagreement with your neighbor and you wonder what your rights are.

 

Are you in a situation where you have a legal question but

either don’t have a lawyer or you don’t feel the question warrants the cost?

 

As a member of OSOT, you have access to prepaid legal advice through the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists’ Members Legal Plan.  You can pick up the phone at any time and get answers to your questions with no worry about legal billings.  Should you require legal services that go beyond the advisory limits of the plan, you may request a referral to a plan lawyer in your area (some geographical restrictions may apply) and be entitled to receive a preferred rate of 25% below the lawyer’s standard hourly fee.  Please note, however, that this preferred rate does not apply to Real Estate law. 

 

This program is not a substitute for legal advice accessible through your professional liability insurance.  In the event of a complaint or lawsuit, contact your liability insurance carrier to access a lawyer.

 

How do you access your complimentary legal services?

 

•     Your OSOT member ID Number is your access to complimentary services - see your OSOT Membership Card

•     Use the local or toll-free number on the reverse of your OSOT membership card. You'll access the call-in centre and be asked for your program identification

•     Quote your OSOT membership id number and then identify the nature of your call and the type of legal advice you need.  You'll be asked for convenient times to call you back and can arrange appropriate time frames for a lawyer to contact you.

Call toll free for access through the legal plan’s bilingual telephone advisory service, available 24/7.  Plan lawyers are specialized and provide practical legal advice and direction.  If you think you have a legal problem or, just need to ask a question, simply pick up the phone and call.  Your plan covers questions related to the following types of law:

            •           Employment Law        •        Criminal                                  •       Wills/Estate Planning

            •           Civil Litigation              •        Landlord Tenant                    

            •           Family Law                 •        Real Estate Law
