Vaccination eligibility - updated

The Ontario Government recently expanded eligibility for COVID-19 vaccinations. It is recommended that all occupational therapists follow best-practice guidance and organizational policy for vaccinations.

Second boosters:

All adults 18 years and older are now eligible for their second booster (4th dose) of the COVID-19 vaccine.  It is recommended that the second booster dose be offered at 5 months after an individual receives their first booster dose. A new bivanlent COVID-19 vaccine is anticipated to be approved by Health Canada this fall, which may offer more targeted protection against the Omicron variants. Ontarians are encouraged to speak with their health care provider about whether getting a second booster dose now is right for them.

Children 6 months to under 5 years of age:

As of Thursday, July 28, 2022 appointments may be booked for the paediatric COVID-19 vaccine for children 6 months to under 5 years old.  The recommended interval between first and second doses is eight weeks.

Booking appointments:

Appointments can be booked through the COVID-19 vaccination portal or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1-833-943-3900. Eligible individuals can also book appointments directly through public health units that use their own booking systems, through Indigenous-led vaccination clinics and participating pharmacies.
