Occupational Therapist

This casual, part-time position – at our St. Catharines Site – calls for an experienced, self-directed Occupational Therapist who welcomes the opportunity to join Niagara Health on a bold new journey to create a healthier Niagara.

Working on-call, as needed, to promote excellence, quality patient/client-centred care and high professional standards, you’ll be responsible for the provision and delivery of quality Occupational Therapy Services. Your objective as an Occupational Therapist will be to provide safe, competent care by applying your professional knowledge and the technical aspects of professional practice, while demonstrating compassion, professionalism and respect at all times.

To join our dynamic team as an Occupational Therapist, you must be a flexible professional and effective decision-maker with a knowledge base and skill set that include:

  • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Ability to apply knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and interprofessional practice by meeting professional practice standards as outlined by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, acute care hospital setting.
  • Ability to apply Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client-centred care and service.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient/client-centred care.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform assessments, develop quality patient/client programming, and facilitate patient discharges.
  • Demonstrated ability to support, explain, and instruct patients and their families in understanding the clinical procedures to facilitate optimum health status.
  • Evidence of effective organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to integrate reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem-solving.
  • Evidence of accurate, timely documentation according to best practice guidelines.
  • Ability to bend, reach, lift and transfer patients on a frequent basis throughout the day.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within an inter-disciplinary team.
  • Flexibility, self-direction and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to maintain consistent, regular attendance.
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
