Bridging the Transition From Homelessness To Housed

A Social Justice Framework to Guide Occupational Therapists

In this webinar, a framework will be presented that has been informed by the voices of individuals with lived experience of homelessness, occupational therapists, and occupational therapy researchers.

  • Describe the research providing a foundation for the Bridging the Transition Framework.
  • Provide an overview of the Bridging the Transition Framework.
  • Summarize the competencies needed for occupational therapists to support homeless individuals across the transition from homeless to housed.

  • Occupational therapists working in the housing and homelessness sectors interested in a framework to guide their practice.
  • Occupational therapy researchers interested in discussing ways of influencing policy, and conducting research to evaluate this framework.


About Our Presenters:

Dr. Marshall is an assistant professor in the School of Occupational Therapy at Western University whose research focuses on the intersections between poverty and mental health. Much of her research focuses on homelessness, and ways of more effectively supporting the transition from homeless to housed for individuals living with mental illness and substance use disorders.

Dr. Gewurtz is an associate professor in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University whose research focuses on income security for persons living with disabilities. She has been involved in several research projects related to housing and homelessness.
