Motivational Interviewing: Level II - Advanced (Live Online)

This is a skills-based workshop that will be delivered live online. A live online workshop mimics a similar experience to an in-person workshop, and includes the use of small group work, and paired skills training in motivational interviewing. The difference between delivering this workshop online vs. in-person is that individuals from multiple geographic regions can join conveniently from their own home. This reduces the need to pay for accommodations and other travel related expenses, and can be an economical alternative to an in-person workshop.
This skills-based workshop will provide a review of motivational interviewing spirit and OARS, practice and evaluation of motivational interviewing skills, and individually-focused skill development and practice in paired scenarios. It will also provide practice in listening for, and facilitating discussion about change, motivational interviewing applied to complex cases, examples will be drawn from a range of practice areas including substance use, housing and homelessness, hoarding, and health promotion (i.e. healthy eating, disease management, and exercise participation). Practice and feedback in using the strategies learned in the workshop will also be provided.
About the Facilitator:
Carrie Anne Marshall, PhD. is an Assistant Professor at Western University and occupational therapist whose teaching and research focuses on mental health, poverty, and homelessness. She has worked for several years in the housing and homelessness sector, assertive community treatment, crisis, and early intervention in psychosis. She has advanced level training in motivational interviewing, and is frequently asked to provide this training in universities, and in health care and social service settings.
