This virtual two-day course emphasizes the how-to of CBT skills. It takes an in-depth look at how to conceptualize a case, how to work with thought record challenges, and introduces deeper levels of thinking in the form of underlying assumptions and core beliefs. Behavioural techniques include the use of activity schedules to encourage behavioural change, and the set-up and debriefing of behavioural experiments. Skills in Socratic dialogue are developed and emphasized throughout.
Collectively, these skills are broadly applicable to the treatment of depression, anxiety and other mental disorders, as well as working with the contextual factors that worsen physical illnesses and thwart recovery from injury.
This course has been significantly revised in 2021, and adapted to a virtual format. New features include several live demonstrations, as well as specific examples relating to chronic pain and physical disabilities. The presenter is a Diplomate with the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, and has years of clinical and teaching experience.
