Upper Extremity Prosthetics Seminar for OTs, OTAs and other rehabilitative healthcare professionals

This introductory level course for Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, and other rehabilitative healthcare professionals provides an overview of general guidelines for upper extremity amputation rehabilitation. Common levels of upper limb amputation and clinical assessment will be covered, along with prosthetic options for each level. Body-powered and myoelectric options, along with functional advantages and disadvantages of each, will be addressed. Myoelectric evaluation tools and prosthetic componentry will be reviewed and demonstrated. Structured therapy protocols for post-operative care, pre-prosthetic treatment, and prosthetic training will be explained. Outcome measures currently recommended for use with upper extremity prosthetics will also be reviewed. A certificate will be issued upon the completion of the course.
