New Membership Awards Honour OSOT's 100th Anniversary

As the Society celebrates its 100th Anniversary, it is fitting to reflect on the talent, leadership, and commitment of members over the many years of OSOT's history. From the early days of a few ward aides meeting to consider how best to advance their new profession to the over 4,800 members of today, OSOT's greatest strength has been its members.

In honour of the anniversary and with a sincere commitment to ensure that membership commitment and achievement is recognized now and into the future, the Board of Directors have approved 4 new membership awards.

The E. Doris Stupart Leadership Award
To honour the leadership and commitment to the Society of OSOT members who step forward to assume the role of President, this award will be presented bi-annually to the out-going President at the completion of their term of office. In addition to recognizing the significant contribution to the leadership of the Society, this award will assure that our past Presidents remain visible exemplars for members in years to come. In celebration of the Society's 100th Anniversary, the Board will acknowledge all Past-Presidents with this Award in 2021. The Doris Stupart Leadership Award is a Life Membership in the Society. Doris Stupart was the first President of OSOT and it is a fitting tribute to the Society's roots to name an award that recognizes the leadership of the Board of Directors after our first leader.

20 Year Member Recognition
The strength of any membership association is in its members and OSOT has been well supported by Ontario occupational therapists over its 100 year history. A commitment to membership in the Society extends a commitment to advancing occupational therapy in Ontario a core mission of the Society since its inception in 1921. Many members are long-standing supporters of the Society and its work and provide a valued stability of membership strength that is critical to advance the voice and positions of occupational therapists to the public and to our health system decision-makers and stakeholders. This membership loyalty is celebrated and will henceforth be recognized. Members who have had continuous 20 year membership will be recognized in their 20th membership year and will receive a new OSOT 20 year membership pin. 20 year members in 2021 will receive this award this year!

Innovation and Impact Awards
To recognize and celebrate innovations and impacts of OSOT members, the Society will engage a new awards program to solicit nominations of innovative practices, programs or initiatives engaging or led by an OSOT member. OSOT Innovation & Impact Awards will provide an opportunity to recognize and share initiatives that advance OT in Ontario in big and small ways. OSOT believes that celebrating and shining the light on the leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation of occupational therapists and the impacts and value they contribute can, and will, inspire all members. Watch for more information and calls for nominations in 2022.

OSOT Award of Merit
OSOT members are making amazing contributions in many ways all the time.  We have few opportunities to recognize and celebrate the many ways in which individuals contribute to the strength of our profession in Ontario. The Award of Merit will provide opportunity to recognize contribution in voluntarism, leadership, research, clinical excellence, entrepreneurship, etc. This award will be introduced for nominations in 2022.

The Board of Directors is pleased to enhance OSOT's Awards Program which has to date been limited to the OSOT New Graduate Award for Leadership, the Honourary Life Membership Award, and OSOT's nomination(s) for the CAOT provincial Citation Award.
