Auto Insurance Updates/Changes Effective October 1, 2016

The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) has released a number of bulletins to communicate changes that became effective October 1, 2016. 

• Revised Attendant Care Hourly Rate Guideline 
  
  
• Revised Transportation Expense Guideline 
  
  
• Revised Assessment of Attendant Care Needs Form (Form 1) - On or after October 1, 2016, this revised Form 1 is to be used for new and existing claims for attendant care whether submitted in paper or electronically through HCAI.
  
  
• Notice of the commencement of the voluntary Form 1 HCAI Pilot Project - Commencing October 1, 2016, FSCO and HCAI will be conducting a voluntary Form 1 pilot project. Facilities that are enrolled with HCAI will be able to submit the form to insurers electronically using either a Practice Management System (PMS) that is integrated with HCAI, or the HCAI web channel

Implications for Occupational Therapists

Occupational therapists working in the auto insurance sector should familiarize themselves with these new guideline and form.  Regular review of the FSCO website can facilitate monitoring of news and bulletins, however, subscribing to FSCO communications is an even more effective way to stay in touch and informed.
