Hillsdale Estates
We are currently seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our Long Term Care Division. The position is located at Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa, Ontario.


As an Occupational Therapist, you will:

  • Perform assessments and develop, implement and evaluate treatment plans for residents in the home
  • Document treatment/intervention for residents on charts and in Point Click Care (PCC) and Point of Care (POC) utilizing interRAI LTCF
  • Assess and provide adaptive equipment as required, i.e. wheelchair, seating, orthotics/splinting, assistive devices, etc.
  • Assess residents in need of mobility aids (seating/positioning), and prescribe and complete Assistive Devices Program (ADP) application
  • Assess and provide therapeutic surfaces and pressure relieving devices for wound management and prevention
  • Utilize Activity Pro as a documentation tool to assist in tracking OT Programming and evaluate Therapeutic Dining Programs
  • Provide staff education and training related to lift and transfer (proper body mechanics, safe resident handling), use of repositioning and mechanical lifting devices, therapeutic surfaces and seat cushions for wound healing and prevention, least restraint training, staff orientation, etc.
  • Complete Cognitive Competency Tests to assess residents' cognitive ability and their potential to participate in daily functional activities
  • Maintain up-to-date information/database for mobility aids and vendors
  • Develop and evaluate small group programs, and facilitate as required (i.e. cognitive groups), ensuring program descriptions are created and kept current
  • Employ various therapeutic modalities to assist with independence such as eating, dressing, mobility, etc.
  • Liaise with family members to discuss the ongoing therapy needs of residents

The successful applicant will have:

  • A degree in Occupational Therapy and registration in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • ADP (Assistive Devices Program) Authorizer status from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care
  • A couple of years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, preferably in a long term care setting
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy assessment techniques, therapeutic skills, modalities and applications
  • Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary resident care team
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, and experience with electronic Health Care Record (eHCR)
  • A demonstrated ability to provide high-quality service with consideration for equity and accessibility and willingness to adapt programs and services to meet diverse needs
  • Ability to work independently, organize time, set priorities and accurately perform work
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists and/or the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (O.S.O.T.) are assets

CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 9

This position is with Salary Grade 9 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:

  • - Start: $53.87 - Six Month: $56.87 - Job: $59.86

Conditions of Employment

throughout the recruitment process. The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within two (2) months from date of hire. Additionally, tuberculosis screening will be required in accordance with the FLTC Act (O.Reg. 246/22). Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected. Finally, compliance with the Mask Fit Testing Program is required and will be
coordinated as part of the orientation process.
