Description of Opportunity

 

Matthew House Toronto is a nationally recognized organization dedicated to welcoming, assisting, and resettling refugee claimants who would otherwise be homeless. With a main reception house and five transitional homes, it offers longer-term support specifically for vulnerable residents, including unaccompanied teens and single mothers. Since its establishment in 1998, Matthew House has supported nearly 2,000 refugee claimants from 102 countries. The organization is committed to empowering independence, restoring dignity, and inspiring hope in those it serves. Its innovative Refugee Hearing Program has achieved a significant success rate, helping claimants navigate the Immigration and Refugee Board process.

Role Description

 

This is a role for a Senior Occupational Therapist based in Toronto, ON, mainly on-site with flexibility for part time or full time hours. The Senior Occupational Therapist will provide client-centered care by conducting assessments, developing and implementing personal plans to navigate daily life and establish settlement milestones. Collaborating with volunteers and staff for referrals and support is a key function. The role centres on relational case management for vulnerable refugees, employing trauma-informed practices.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Proficiency in Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation practices.
  • Understanding of refugees' unique needs
  • Strong skills in advocacy and system navigation
  • A collaborative team leader with clear communication skills
  • A natural community-connector
  • Education in Occupational Therapy or similar studies
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and respect for cultural diversity.
  • Experience in refugee, shelters or settlement services is an asset.
