Date and Time: February 24, 2021 from 12:00-1:00pm

Description:

An under-estimated consideration when prescribing power wheelchairs is the exposure of the client to whole-body vibration (WBV), which is known to have detrimental health effects, such as motion sickness, low-back pain and changes to the nervous system. This webinar examines how the clinicians can improve their estimate of WBV exposure to their clients and how the drive configuration of power wheelchairs affects the vibration experienced by wheelchair users. The goal of this webinar is to raise awareness of the risks of WBV and provide clinical applications to inform the prescription of power wheelchairs.

Session Topics:

  • Detrimental physical effects of whole-body vibrations on power wheelchair users.
  • How to use a smart phone accelerometer and an available mobile application to measure power wheelchair vibration.
  • Clinical considerations when prescribing power wheelchairs or vibration dampening equipment.
