Learn what obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is, as well as common symptoms, behaviours, and specific functional impairments seen in clients with OCD. The occupational therapy lens can provide a useful perspective on OCD, particularly based on OTs ability to perform task analysis. The presenters will delve into further discussion about various OCD subtypes and their impact on daily functioning. Specific interventions that OTs can use to address OCD, including psychotherapy (CBT + ERP), cognitive interventions, environmental modifications, parent/caregiver coaching, etc., will be discussed.
Learning Objectives: Understand common symptoms, obsessions, and compulsions of OCD. Develop a basic ability to formulate an OCD case from an OT lens. Identify specific treatment approaches to utilize with clients with OCD. Learn to create a basic exposure and response prevention plan for clients with OCD.
