Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), previously known as psychogenic or conversion disorder, is a common and disabling neurological condition that often presents in neurology clinics. Over the past two decades, numerous clinical trials have demonstrated that physiotherapy and physical rehabilitation is effective in the treatment of patients living with FND. The Functional Neurological Disorder Physiotherapy Course provides an introductory understanding of FND with a specialized focus on helping clinicians manage FND motor symptoms (ie. weakness, gait issues, tremor, etc.). This two-day, in-person course empowers practitioners with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively identify and treat this complex condition through a systematic framework for assessment and treatment management. Using a combination of evidence-based theory, real-life case studies, and practical hands-on exercises, therapists will learn to create personalized treatment plans that cater to the unique needs of each FND patient.
AFTER COMPLETING THIS COURSE YOU WILL: Gain a deeper understanding of the neuroscience behind Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Recognize common motor presentations of FND such as functional gait disorder, weakness, tremor, dystonia and others. Be able to deliver a comprehensive clinical assessment and informed treatment plan. Learn and implement the FND C.O.N.T.R.O.L System ™ framework for effectively treating FND. Receive FND-specific handouts and resources for quick reference. Feel more confident in managing and supporting clients.
