Webinar Description:
ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neuro degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord resulting in progressive paralysis of the muscles of the body. This webinar will update occupational therapists about the services available through the ALS Society of Canada - in particular how to effectively access the equipment loan program.
The webinar will cover:
- ALS and its progression.
- Things to consider for ALS patients/clients.
- The ALS Society's role with allied health professionals.
- The equipment loan program.
- Available funding supports.
By the end of this webinar you will:
- Understand the progression of ALS.
- Recognize the supports and services available to people living with ALS.
- Explain the available programs to patients.
- Understand the need to plan ahead for ALS patients/clients, particularly for their equipment needs.
Presenters:
Rabia Shah is the Senior Equipment Program Manager for the ALS Society of Canada. Rabia has worked in the healthcare sector for over 15 years, with the last few years leading the ALS Canada equipment program and ensuring that individuals diagnosed with ALS get the assistive equipment support they need in their homes.
Emily Moffatt is the National Community Lead for the ALS Society of Canada. Emily has been working in the community services sector for the last 10 years. Emily has worked in programs such as older adult services, community & residential hospice as well as service navigation. Emily has worked with ALS Canada and individuals diagnosed with ALS for the last few years ensuring that clients and their families are connected with resources and have a better understanding of ALS and the healthcare system.
