With the population aging, and dementia cases on the rise, it is important for healthcare providers to understand dementia and to implement effective communication strategies with their patients/clients. This webinar will provide an overview of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, with a focus on understanding the symptoms and cognitive changes a person may experience. It will also discuss practical strategies to support someone living with dementia. Lastly, programs and services through the Alzheimer Society of Ontario will be shared.
By the end of this webinar you will:
- Understand the difference between Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
- Identify the signs and symptoms of dementia.
- Demonstrate effective strategies to interact with someone with dementia.
- Understand the programs and services available at the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
Presenter:
Bernice Chan (she/her), BA, MSW has been a Public Education Coordinator at the Alzheimer Society of Toronto since 2013. As an educator, Bernice delivers workshops to increase public awareness on Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias, and provides dementia care training to health care professionals. Bernice has a Masters of Social Work degree with a specialization in gerontology and has worked with people with dementia both in the community and health care settings.
