This webinar will provide information on the caregiving landscape in Ontario, specifically the essential role that unpaid, informal caregivers play in our healthcare system, tangible ways to support caregivers and improve client outcomes, and knowledge of how the Ontario Caregiver Organization is working to improve how caregivers are identified, included, and supported across our healthcare system.
By the end of this webinar you will:
- Describe the caregiving landscape in Ontario, including the prevalence, demographics, and impact of unpaid caregivers within the healthcare system.
- Explain the critical role of caregivers in supporting client outcomes, particularly in relation to functional independence, care transitions, and community living.
- Identify practical, evidence-informed strategies occupational therapists can use to engage and support caregivers.
- Summarize the key initiatives and system-level work of the Ontario Caregiver Organization, including approaches to improving caregiver identification, inclusion, and support across care settings.
Presenter:
Kailey Forster, RN, BScN, MN is the Senior Lead for Healthcare Provider Education at the Ontario Caregiver Organization, where she advances caregiver-inclusive education across Ontario’s health system. A Registered Nurse with over 15 years of experience, she brings a diverse clinical background with experience in acute care, community, rehabilitation, and senior's care. Drawing on her firsthand experience partnering with caregivers to support improved patient outcomes, Kailey is deeply committed to strengthening caregiver inclusion and improving how caregivers are identified, engaged, and supported throughout the healthcare system.
