Date and Time: January 21, 2026 | 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Eastern Time
Webinar Description:
In the profession of occupational therapy, we prioritize access and inclusion of individuals, particularly disabled individuals as they have been historically marginalized from mainstream opportunities. Yet, students and practitioners with disabilities in occupational therapy report ableism within the profession. We, as a profession, can work together to begin to address these concerns.
In this webinar, you will learn what empirical evidence tells us, particularly from disabled students and colleagues, about inclusion in our profession. You will have an opportunity to share questions and strategies for improving the inclusivity of the fieldwork / placement opportunities offered to student occupational therapists and student occupational therapist assistants, recognizing that often the strategies that are helpful to a student with a disability are helpful to other students as well. You will learn these proactive approaches are intended to set-up students, preceptors and employers for successful fieldwork experiences.
By the end of this webinar you will:
- Discuss current research on disability accommodation and accessibility in fieldwork.
- Evaluate fieldwork opportunities and barriers to learning.
- Design next steps intended to improve the inclusion of students, with and without disabilities, in their context.
