Exploring the Packer Managing Fatigue Program

Join Dr. Tanya Packer to learn about the Packer Managing Fatigue Program. With over 30 years of evidence of effectiveness, this occupational therapy intervention was initially developed to manage post-polio syndrome fatigue. It has since been proven effective across various populations, methods, and languages. Now available as online asynchronous training, including a one year license with access to supports and resources, the Packer Managing Fatigue Program can be used to support people who experience fatigue as a result of chronic conditions, such as Post-polio syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

This one hour webinar will review the Packer Managing Fatigue Program, its development and underlying occupational therapy theories, and the evidence surrounding the program.

By the end of this webinar you will:

  • Identify the purpose and utility of the Packer Managing Fatigue Program.
  • Using the Packer Managing Fatigue Program as an example, recognize methods and approaches for integrating self-management and occupational therapy theory into practice.
  • Examine the body of evidence relating to the Packer Managing Fatigue Program.

Presenters:
Dr. Tanya Packer
is a licensed occupational therapist and previous director of the School of Occupational Therapy and the School of Health Administration (SHA) at Dalhousie University. She is a highly accomplished senior scholar, academic leader, and a tenured full professor. Dr. Packer has an active research program focused on “chronic and complex conditions”. Recognized as a world leader in self-management science, she has published over 130 peer reviewed manuscripts. Working with partners and research trainees, her current projects focus on the design and testing of self-management interventions including fatigue management, development of a patient reported outcome measure, low vision rehabilitation and developing age-friendly communities.

In 2021, while working as a research occupational therapist, Michelle Lehman witnessed a surge of requests from therapists seeking access to interventions that might help clients living with chronic conditions. What started as a networking concept, Think Self-Management is now an international hub for evidence-based programming and research commercialization. After receiving her BSc in Psychology from Dalhousie, Michelle went on to complete her MSc in Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto. Embracing the intersection of entrepreneurship and healthcare, Michelle is alumnus of the Mitacs Accelerate Entrepreneurship Program, the Lab2Market Women in Research cohort, and Ontario Brain Institute NERVE. She also works at as an occupational therapist at Shoreline Therapy in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
