Introduction to Splinting

Workshop Description:

The purpose of this workshop is to provide a foundational understanding of the mechanical principles involved in splinting, as well as the various materials and design options commonly used in practice. You will gain hands-on experience in learning and applying templates for wrist, thumb, and finger splints that are frequently used in the management of upper extremity injuries. The workshop will also include opportunities to fabricate these splints, reinforcing both theoretical knowledge and practical skill development. Register quickly as spaces are limited.

  • Learn about different splinting designs and materials. 
  • Fabricate a wrist, thumb and finger splint. 

About Our Presenter:

Ana Gollega (she/her), OT Reg. (Ont.), MSc. Anatomy, BScOT, Certified Hand Therapist 
is an OT with 33 years of experience who worked in inpatient and outpatient settings in public and private hospitals and in community rehabilitation in the private and non-profit sectors in Canada and Brazil. She is passionate about upper extremity and neurorehabilitation and has extensive experience treating individuals of all ages who have suffered a traumatic or acquired brain injury or orthopedic trauma. Ana focuses her practice on improving independence and quality of life for her clients. She completed a master’s in anatomy and a bachelor’s in science of occupational therapy with a specialization in hand therapy. Ana has several years of experience in education and research presenting at conferences in Canada and other countries on topics related to upper extremity and neurorehabilitation. She has also published articles related to upper extremity rehabilitation and led the development of an assessment measure for the Disorder of Consciousness called Comprehensive Assessment Measure for Minimally Consciousness Individuals (CAMMRI).
