OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, the Urgent Response Occupational Therapist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting children and youth with an Autism diagnosis and their families with an identified urgent need to prevent further escalation of risk or harm to a child or youth, other people or property based on the identification of key high-risk factors.

The Occupational Therapist will support families by conducting assessments, create individualized plans that address needs, and provide consultation to the child/you and family on how to implement strategies as suggested in the plan.

WHAT YOUR DAY LOOKS LIKE

  • Provide assessment, treatment, consultation and/or service planning for individuals with ASD
  • Conduct assessments and collaborate with families to develop a comprehensive plan that addresses the needs of the child/youth as it relates to the realm of occupational therapy
  • Provide educational services to staff and agencies/stakeholders to support individuals with autism.
  • Program and service development and evaluation for Occupational Therapy services.
  • Attend, contribute, advocate and inform at OAP URS meetings, and others as appropriate
  • Provide any related resources to clients as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Graduate degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • 1 year work experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities and/or Autism an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of early childhood education, Autism and applied behaviour analysis
  • Knowledge and application of the Occupational Therapy framework, philosophy and theory, administration and interpretation of standardized and non-standardized assessments, knowledge of development (typical/non-typical), of augmentative communication/writing assessments, intervention strategies application of technology, and of appropriate Occupational Therapy intervention strategies and techniques
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills
  • Good data collection, filing and report writing skills
  • Demonstrate strength as a team player
  • Able to work independently
  • Effective problem solving and judgement skills
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Must be vaccinated against COVID-19
