People with vision loss and mobility impairments may benefit from the use of a power mobility device, such as a power wheelchair or scooter. Occupational therapists and orientation and mobility specialists are two health care professional who can work together collaboratively with clients who have vision loss to assess and train in the use of power mobility devices. This webinar will explain how this has been down by the presenters and share guidelines for working with clients with vision loss who could benefit from power mobility devices.

Michelle is trained in both fields of optometry and occupational therapy. She graduated from University of Toronto's Occupational Therapy program in 2002 and from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2008. In addition to her primary eye care practice, she also has a special interest in low vision, here she is able to incorporate her occupational therapy skill set. 

Corie has worked at Misericordia Health Centre in Winnipeg for 27 years working in the Ophthalmology program with low vision patients and the out-patient program Easy Street with power mobility clients. She completed her low vision rehabilitation certificate for occupational therapists from the University of Alabama at Burmingham (UAB) in 2010, followed by her Masters degree from UAB in 2012. Her masters project was to develop guidelines for power mobility provision for OTs working with low vision clients.

Colin has worked int he field of post vision loss rehabilitation therapy as an orientation and mobility specialist with Vision Loss Rehabilitation Manitoba for 7 years.
