This Shift Concussion Management Level 2 course is tailored to healthcare providers, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, athletic therapists, and chiropractors who possess a foundational understanding of acute concussion assessment, treatment, and clinical guidelines through our Level 1 online course. Participants will engage in live interactions, case discussions, and problem-solving activities to enhance their expertise in managing complex concussion cases. The course emphasizes evidence-based rehabilitation techniques, multidisciplinary collaboration, and personalized treatment planning to optimize patient outcomes. This specialized course aims to equip participants with advanced knowledge and skills in managing complex and persistent concussion cases. Through in-depth clinical concepts, case studies, and evidence-based research, healthcare professionals will gain valuable insights into the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients experiencing prolonged concussion symptoms. The course will delve into the challenges posed by persistent cases, exploring innovative therapeutic approaches and multidisciplinary collaborations to optimize patient outcomes.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: Recognize the characteristics of persistent concussion cases and differentiate them from typical concussion recoveries. Utilize advanced assessment techniques to identify contributing factors to persistent symptoms. Formulate comprehensive and individualized treatment plans for patients with prolonged concussion symptoms. Apply evidence-based interventions for persistent concussion cases. Evaluate the role of multidisciplinary teams in managing complex concussion cases. Understand the influence of psychological factors in persistent concussion symptomology. Analyze the impact of lifestyle and environmental factors on concussion recovery. Implement strategies to address sleep disturbances and manage fatigue in persistent cases. Explore emerging treatment modalities for persistent concussion patients including cervical, vestibular-ocular and exercise-based therapies. Foster effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. Identify potential red flags for more severe underlying pathologies and implement appropriate referral processes. Develop comprehensive return-to-play, return-to-learn, and return-to-work protocols for persistent concussion patients.
