The Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Matrix

Date and Time: April 19, 2024 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Virtual Workshop Description:

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has emerged as an evidenced based, effective, transdiagnostic therapeutic modality belonging in the third wave of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies. Its use of metaphors and creative interventions underpinned by functional analysis and functional contextualism makes it a unique therapeutic modality that can be used across populations.

The ACT Matrix frame offers an effective and concise model of practicing ACT with applicability in a variety of health care settings. This process can help change the way patients, and clinicians, relate to their difficult experiences and facilitate movement toward a life with more vitality and meaning.

This virtual workshop will help you explore a new and creative way of engaging with your patients in the service of expanding their abilities to respond to their pain in ways that lead to a richer and more meaningful life.

By the end of this workshop, you will:

  • Understand the basic philosophical and theoretical context from which acceptance and commitment emerges.
  • Learn to use the ACT Matrix tool which is a simple, concise, and effective way to help clients: notice their pain and the effectiveness of their coping repertoire; clarify their values; and expand effective behavioural repertoire in the presence of pain.
  • Gain knowledge on how to use the ACT Matrix to conceptualize clients' presentations across populations.
  • Use the ACT Matrix to plan and deliver treatment interventions with individuals and groups.
