Workshop Description:

The workshop is designed to provide occupational therapists (OTs) with the knowledge and skills to understand and advocate for individuals seeking automotive vehicle modification solutions, while also teaching practitioners about the unique process involved in evaluating, selecting and purchasing appropriate automotive options. To enhance this dynamic session further, manufacturer industry partners will be present to participate in discussions on industry topics and showcasing their products during the walkaround portion of the workshop.

During this workshop, you will:

  • Be able to describe the unique process involved in researching and evaluating mobility equipment solutions options available for your clients/patients.
  • Differentiate between the key mobility equipment providers involved in the automotive mobility equipment industry who collaborate with OTs.
  • Identify useful mobility equipment resources to assist clients and their caregivers.
  • Summarize the risks of poor awareness about safe mobility equipment options.
  • Discuss general knowledge about accessible vehicles and adaptive equipment.


About Our Presenter:

Tamalea Stone (she/her), OT Reg. (Ont.), CDR 
has extensive experience as a clinician, business owner, and leader in a variety of hospital and community-based settings spanning her 31-year career. She began working in the field of driver rehabilitation in 2009. In September 2020, she closed her private practice and moved to Ottawa to run the Driving Rehabilitation Service at The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre. She is known for her extensive knowledge of driving assessment and rehabilitation practices including vehicle modification and adaptive equipment, with a variety of medical conditions. She fuels her hunger for continuing education by providing clients with solutions based on best practices and presenting varied seminars and workshops to occupational therapists and other health professionals, locally, provincially, and internationally. Tamalea is a proud McMaster School of Occupational Therapy alumni, with a post graduate Master Certificate in Assessing Driving Capabilities (McGill) and Certification in Driver Rehabilitation (CDR) from the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists.
