Join the Senior Health Policy Advisor at the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario to learn about Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) and the role of the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. The webinar will address common questions from Ontario occupational therapists.

By the end of the webinar, participants will have a better understanding of: 

Terminology under the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), such as:

  • Agents      
  • Electronic Service Providers & Health Information Network Providers     
  • Recipients     
  • PHIPA's Limiting Principles 
Consent, including:  
  • Capacity to Consent      
  • Express, Implied, and Assumed Implied Consent

  • Lock box – Withholds & Withdrawals of Consent 
  • Access Requests 
  • Storing & Sharing Personal Health Information

Presenter:

Andrea Ramsarran (she/her) 
is a Senior Health Policy Advisory at the Office of Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner, where she has worked since 2022. Prior to that, Andrea was a Senior Policy Advisor in Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery. Andrea has 20+ years experience working on numerous regulatory, policy and operational matters relating to privacy and data sharing within the health sector. Andrea holds a BA (Hons.) from York University.
